Abstract

1372691 Cigarettes MOLINS Ltd 11 Aug 1971 [12 Aug 1970] 38918/70 Heading A2C A filter cigarette comprises a tobacco portion 2 which is not substantially more than half the length of the whole cigarette and is enclosed in a wrapper of sheet material 12 with discrete preformed perforations in it, and a filter portion 4 which is axially spaced from the tobacco portion 2. The filter portion 4 may contain one or more filter sections, e.g. a paper filter 6 and a cellulose fibre wad 8, and may contain a radial or transverse flow type filter. The portions 2, 4 are joined by a metal strip uniting band 16, the space between them optionally being filled with a porous glass fibre wad fire barrier 10. The filter portion 4 is enclosed by a tube 14 having a stiff inner layer, e.g. of cardboard, overwrapped with thin paper, the end of the tube 14 contained within the uniting band 16 being impregnated with fire-resistant material. Preferably, the wrapper 12 has a relatively low chalk content, has a dark colour e.g. black, and is perforated by sparking.
