Abstract
1372232 Composite alloy materials INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 17 Jan 1972 [22 Jan 1971 16 July 1971] 2952/71 and 33645/71 Heading C7A A composite product comprises an alloy substrate containing, in weight per cent:- one or more of titanium, niobium, tantalum and vanadium such that there is sufficient to combine with substantially all the carbon, but in total less than 4% clad with an alloy containing, in weight per cent:- The substrate alloy should contain the carbideforming elements in an amount such that the sum of the percentages %Ti + %Nb + %Ta + 10(%V) should at least equal 1. A thin nickel interlayer may be provided between the substrate and cladding and the composite is particularly suited for use in heat-exchanger tubes, undesirable interdiffusion being minimized. The composite products may be made by hot-rolling, co-drawing or co-extrusion; the co-extrusion may be effected with a preformed substrate and a sintered cladding.
