1368622 Amusement machines BARCREST Ltd 20 July 1972 [20 July 1971] 34013/71 Heading G4V A coin-freed amusement machine comprises a plurality of symbol carrying drums or wheels 10, 11, 12, a light or infra-red source 18 and a plurality of photosensitive devices 19 to 23 for each drum, each drum having a portion provided with means 24, 25 for controlling the transmission of light from the respective source to the respective plurality of devices so that the position of the portion determines which of said devices receive light and means for combining signals from said devices to produce further signals dependent on the rest position of the drums. Three examples of suitable circuitry for producing the further signals and combining these to control the paying of prizes are disclosed. In the first (Fig. 4, not shown) two holes 24, 25 are provided for each position of the drum and energize a selected pair of photoresistive devices according to the symbol displayed in window (2), (Fig. 1, not shown). Corresponding photoresistors of the three drums are connected in series and the series connection is connected in parallel to certain inputs of a number of AND gates (G1) to (G10) each of which will therefore issue a signal when a certain combination of symbols appears in window (2). In the second embodiment (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) there are sufficient holes in the drums to identify each position of the drum, the respective photosensitive devices being connected to a decoder (DU1) which issues signals dependent on the rest position of the drum to a patchboard unit (PB1) that issues a signal indicative of the displayed symbol associated with the particular rest position to a coincidence unit (CU). In the third embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown) corresponding photoresistors of the three drums are connected to respective 3 input AND gates (61) to (65) the outputs of certain ones of these being connected with a line (F) for indicating when the drums have stopped to further 3 input AND gates (66) to (71). Instead of using three coaxial drums 10, 11 and 12 three wheels on parallel axes may be used, the wheels being viewed along the direction of their axes.
