Abstract

1368055 Chucks NEWALL ENG CO Ltd 5 July 1973 32046/73 Heading B3B A machine tool includes a rotatable spindle 1 and a device for clamping a tool 3 to said spindle, the device comprising a tool driving adapter 6 attached to the spindle for drivingly engaging the tool 3, a resilient clamping element 29, a screw clamp ring 22 movable axially when rotated in the adapter 6 between a first clamping position in which the resilient element 29 is deformed by a conical surface 26 on the ring 22 to engage a chamfer 30 on a flange 5 of the tool to apply clamping pressure thereto, and a second release position in which the resilient element 29 assumes an unconstrained configuration and is supported by the screw clamp ring 22. The adapter 6 is attached to the spindle by bolts 7 that pass through two radially inwardly and forwardly directed driving dogs. A flange 5 on the tool shank has recesses to receive said dogs. A separable retainer ring 14 is mounted to engage recesses on the driving dogs and includes a forwardly projecting cylindrical portion which has a further conical surface 19 to engage the resilient element 29. A groove 21 is formed by the adapter 6 and retainer ring 14 and screw stops 27 draw forward the retainer ring 14 as the clamp ring 22 is released.
