1366799 Cupping ALUMINIUM SUISSE SA 11 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 56988/72 Heading B3Q Apparatus for redrawing cup-shaped blanks 30 between a die 2 and a punch 1 at a redrawing station comprises an indexable turret 3 for transforming the blanks, hollow cylindrical clamps 32 slidably-mounted on the turret for clamping blanks against the die, and means for operating the clamp at the redrawing station. As shown, blanks from a vertical shoot, Fig. 3 (not shown), are pushed on to the sleeve 32 at a receiving station (I) by a plunger 41, the apparatus also having a dwell station (II), the redrawing station (III) and a discharge station (IV) where finished workpieces are dropped on to a conveyer (47). In one form, the sleeves 32 are force-fitted in outer sleeves 28 so as to provide an annular recess for the blank. A stop-ring 29 and a shoulder 48 limit movement of the sleeve assembly in the turret 3. At the redrawing station the unit 13-19 for operating the clamps is carried by the slotted ends 8b of a bifurcated lever. The unit includes a chamber 14 to which compressed-air is fed for displacing a flexible wall 15 and thus, through members 16, 17, operating the sleeve assembly 28, 32. The blank is pushed against a replaceable ring 22 on the die. The punch 1 carries the redrawn workpiece into a peripheral recess 45 in a second turret 5 on which it is held by suction which is interrupted to release the workpiece at the discharge station. A shaft 4 is connected to both turrets, and may be driven by indexing mechanism, or (as shown) the indexing mechanism 34 may be coupled to gear teeth on the periphery of the turret 3. In another form, Fig. 4, the clamping sleeves 52 are biased by springs 53 and bear in sleeves 55 which may extend beyond the sides of the turret 3.
