Abstract

1361627 Detergents containing amphoteric surfactants H MARUMO 30 July 1971 [4 Aug 1970 10 May 1971 (2)] 35890/71 Heading C5D A detergent composition comprises an aqueous dispersion of a blend of amphoteric surfactants (A) and (B) in the form of their alkaline earth metal salts, surfactant (A) being selected from compounds III, IV, V and VI as follows : wherein R is a C 6 -C 30 hydrocarbon group; R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are H or CH 3 ; m is 1 to 3; p is 1 or 2; X is H, (CH 2 ) m COO or (CH 2 ) m COOH; X 1 is X or nothing; in which latter case, there is no OH group bonded to N; b is 1 or 2; k is 0 or 1; q and r are 0, 1 or 2; l is 0 or 1 to 5; s is 1 to 4; M is an alkaline earth metal; x, y and z are integers determined by the valency of the metal M; and A is -(CHR<SP>1</SP>CHR<SP>1</SP>O) p X or wherein p is 0, 1 or 2; X is H, (CH 2 ) m COO or (CH 2 ) m COOH; m is 1 to 3; R is C 6 -C 30 hydrocarbon group; R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are H or CH 3 ; and surfactant (B) being a compound of formula: wherein R is C 6 -C 30 hydrocarbon group; R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are H or CH 3 ; p, q and r are 3-100; b is 1 or 2; k is 0 or 1; l is 0 or 1 to 5; s is 1 to 4; M is an alkaline earth metal; x and y are integers determined by the valency of the metal M; A is -(CHR<SP>1</SP>CHR<SP>1</SP>) p X 6 or X 1 , X 2 , X 3 , X 4 , X 5 , X 6 and X 7 are H or (CH 2 ) m COO (wherein m is 1 to 3); at least one of X 1 , X 2 , X 3 , X 4 , X 5 , X 6 or X 7 is (CH 2 ) m COO; where when X 1 and X 2 are not (CH 2 ) m COO, the N will be tertiary N. Mixtures of the surfactants (A) and (B) may be used. Examples are provided in which the aforesaid surfactants are incorporated in a heavy duty detergent composition for washing textiles (Example 19), a carpet cleaning solution (Example 20) and a hair shampoo (Example 21).
