Abstract
1361533 Gas contact apparatus GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 29 March 1972 [6 April 1971] 14668/72 Heading B1F [Also in Divisions C1 and F4] To prevent reaction flame 28 contacting the bottom of inlet nozzle 18, a shield gas is introduced at 19 which flows through annular apertures in plate 26 to prevent a first gas which is passing down tubes 25 from contacting a second gas in reactor 9 until well away from the bottom of tube 18. The use of the apparatus in the production of uranium dioxide is described in which a mixture of uranium hexafluoride and oxygen containing gas is fed in through tubes 25 via inlet 21, a reducing gas is introduced through tubes 13, and an inert shielding gas is introduced via inlet 19.
