1360765 Toy road surface scraper vehicles TONKA CORP 11 Jan 1973 [25 Feb 1972] 1607/73 Heading A6S A toy road surface scraper wheeled vehicle has a scraper blade 40, Fig. 2, which can be moved from a raised position to a lowered position, Fig. 3, where it engages the ground surface G to move sand, &c., as the vehicle is pushed over the surface, springs 37 biassing the blade to its raised position so as to avoid accidental damage to floors, &c. A scraper blade support plate 22 is journalled at one end about the front axle 18 of the vehicle, and is connected by a pair of pivoted links 34 to a handle 28 of inverted U-shape pivoted in the front body portion 19 of the vehicle. The springs 37 act in tension between a bracket 36 fast with the vehicle body and the handle 28, tending to turn the handle anti-clockwise about its pivot and thus raise the scraper blade 40 from the lowered position of Fig. 3 to the raised position of Fig. 2, in use, a single hand upon the handle 28 serves both to lower the scraper blade towards the ground G and also to push the vehicle along. The scraper blade 40 is pivoted by a central rivet 44 to the support plate 22 and has a rearwardly extending fork 45 with arms receiving the end 48 of a blade angle control hand lever 47. A spring 49 biasses the hand lever 47 downwards to engage in one or other of several angle locating notches 51 at the edge of the blade support plate 21. To adjust the angle of the scraper blade 40 on the vehicle, the hand lever 47 is raised against the biass of the spring 49 and thereby disengaged from a locating notch 51: it is then twisted, so that its end 48 turns the scraper blade 40 about its rivet 44: and then lowered, to engage with another locating notch 51. The toy vehicle includes a simulated power unit 11 at the rear pivoted by a bolt assembly 15 to a front unit 14 carrying the scraper blade 40, &c.
