Abstract
1356218 Blast furnace operation COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DE RAFFINAGE and WENDEL-SIDELOR 7 July 1972 [8 July 1971] 31991/72 Heading C7D [Also in Division F4] Liquid fuel to be injected through the tuyeres of a blast furnace is atomised in the tuyere by the blast at a speed between 0À3 mach and 1 mach, and slowed down by passing through a gradually widening tuyere for a time less than the ignition time so that no recirculation streams occur. The tuyere has a curved profile, each generatrix having an equation of which the second derivative is always positive. The curved part of the tuyere may be preceded by a straight part after the atomisation position and may have a linearly divergent section beyond the curved section. The tangents to the surface of the tuyere at the outlet in the plane of the tuyere axis, make an angle of less than 15 degrees to the axis. The Specification gives equations for the generatrix having an equation of which the arrangement enables varying amounts of fuel to be fed to a furnace without undesirable fluctuations of pressure.
