1355770 Testing coins VENDO CO 24 May 1972 [19 Oct 1971] 24367/72 Heading G4V A coin sorting cradle 42 having spaced apart coin-receiving legs 48, 50 and pivotable under the weight of an acceptable coin supported by the legs to deliver the coin to an accept passageway 29, is provided with cradle latching means having a coin sensing portion 70 engageable by the edge of a coin to shift the latching means and free the cradle for movement to its delivery position. The coin sensing portion 70 is positioned so that is engaged by the edge of a coin of acceptable diameter as the cradle moves to deliver this coin to the acceptance passageway, but is not engaged by a coin of lesser diameter until it has passed sufficiently through the legs of the cradle to be committed to entry into a coin reject passageway. In the embodiment shown the cradle latching means (58) (Figs. 2, 5 and 6, not shown) comprises a projection 68 normally disposed in the path of movement of leg 48 of the cradle and shiftable from this position on engagement of inclined surface 73 of the coin sensing portion by a coin's edge. A primary cradle lock (52) (Fig. 1, not shown) is provided which limits movement of the cradle to its delivery position unless a coin-engaging tab 56 of the lock (52) is engaged by the upper edge of a coin during movement of the cradle. Three cradles 42, 44 and 46 are provided located one below the other for resting and separating quarters, nickels and dimes, the cradles being mounted on gate 20 which is pivotable by means of a scavenger 32 to clear jammed coins.
