Abstract
1350193 Welding by fusion DEUTSCHE EDELSTAHLWERKE GmbH 25 Sept 1972 [6 Oct 1971] 44234/72 Heading B3R [Also in Division C7] A sintered welding electrode is formed of titanium carbide with or without other specified carbides and a matrix of ferritic-martensitic, chromium-containing steel (see Division C7). The electrode may be used for welding workpieces of heat-treatable hard alloys or for hardfacing metal workpieces by A.C. or D.C. welding or by the argon shielded arc process. After the welding or facing operation the material can be heat treated, e.g. for 1 hour at 1000‹ C. and 6 hours at 720‹ C. to reduce the hardness of the weld material to allow it to be machined. After machining the hardness can be restored by quenching from the austenitizing temperature, e.g. 1050‹ C. in a bath at 510‹ C.
