Abstract
1347283 Separation by settling PIELKENROOD-VINITEX NV 21 May 1971 [24 May 1970] 16236/71 Heading B1D A device for separating floatation or precipitation components from a liquid comprises a plurality of inclined separation passages 1 formed by superposed corrugated plates. At the ends of the passages, there are arranged a number of parallel baffles 9, 10 extending transversely to the plates and in the longitudinal direction of the separation passages, each pair of adjacent baffles defining a guide passage operative to guide the components separated from the liquid away from the passages. Each guide passage has an open end away from the separation passages and facing the separation passages so that flow through the guide passages is substantially unobstructed. Plate 12 parallel to the corrugated plates is arranged at the lower end of the separation passages to supress turbulence. Guide plates 14 (Fig. 6) along the leading edges of the baffles have the same purpose. In other described embodiments, a slotted baffle or a parallel pair of slotted baffles is mounted transversely upstream of the upper end of the guide passages (16, 18, Figs. 8-10 not shown) to provide uniform flow through the passages and the liquid to be treated is supplied upstream of the slotted baffles from an inlet pipe having a longitudinal slot (Fig. 10, not shown) and having a pivoted guide plate (22) associated therewith.
