Abstract
1346929 Coating process and apparatus BOEHRINGER MANNHEIM GmbH 16 June 1971 [18 June 1970] 28214/71 Headings B2E and B2L A process for varnishing formed bodies (i.e. tablets, tablet cores, capsules and granules) in a conventional drageeing kettle with film-forming materials comprises blowing a current of drying air through a tube passing down into a quantity of formed bodies which are moved by rotation of the drageeing kettle containing them, and by the action of gravity, the current of air forming an air sac surrounded by moving formed bodies in front of the mouth of the tube, and spraying a suspension or solution of film-forming materials into the air sac. Suitable varnishes are (i), a cationic polymer of dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate and other methacrylate acid esters, talc, titanium dioxide, yellow tartrazine varnish, and a polyglycol of average molecular weight 6,000 in ethanol, (ii) ethyl cellulose, polyvinyl pyrrrolidone, polyoxyethylene stearate, carbon tetrachloride and isopropanol and (iii) hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose phthalate, diethyl phthalate and acetone. The figure shows a curved tube 1, the opening of which 3 is substantially vertical having a spray nozzle 2 in the middle of the opening 3. The spray nozzle supply pipe 4 is fixed substantially coaxially in the tube. A spray nozzle and its inlet may be combined to form a single tube which terminates adjacent to the bottom of the drageeing kettle or both may terminate a substantially the same point adjacent to the bottom of the drageeing kettle.
