Abstract
134,181. British Thomson - Houston Co., (General Electric Co.). June 17, 1919. Turbines.-Blade wheels for turbines or the like are made by winding successive layers of strip material 12 having spaced openings 13 therein about a disk 5 so that the openings in successive layers coincide, inserting the bases of the blades 15 in the openings, and welding, brazing or otherwise fastening together the disk, layers and blade bases. The winding is effected by giving a step-by-step movement to a plate 6 secured to the disk 5, and having notches 7 adapted to be engaged by the pawl 9 of a lever 8. A cam 9<a> is rotated to oscillate the lever 8, and backward movement of the plate 6 is prevented by a pawl 11. A punch 14 operating in synchronism with the lever 8 punches a hole 13 in the strip 12 after each movement of the disk 5. The lever 8 is fitted with a frictional device engaging the plate 6 to bring its teeth into firm engagement with the pawl 11. A shroud ring 16 is shrunk over the outer part of the blades, before the welding or other fastening operation is performed.
