Abstract
123,479. Phelps, R. W. July 16, 1918. Valve-gear. - Comprises a rocking-member located between a valve stem and its actuating cam and having a flat surface which engages the cam swell. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, inlet and exhaust valves 8, 7 respectively are actuated by a single cam 1 which engages a pair of rocking-members 4, 3 pivoted at 6, 5, the members 4, 3 having flat surfaces 9, 11 in contact with the actuating cam. The parts are so dimensioned and arranged as to give a maximum valve opening when the piston speed is a maximum.
