Abstract

1,234,202. Doffing winding machines. ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd. 24 Sept., 1968 [27 Sept., 1967], No. 43917/67. Addition to 1,200,455. Heading D1J. In the doffing apparatus according to claim 7 of the parent Specification wherein a pair of auxiliary drive rollers are used to cradle a full spool after its release from contact with a main drive roll, the pair of auxiliary drive rollers are movable downwardly together to lower the spool onto a conveyor after severing the yarn. As shown, auxiliary drive rollers 118 are carried by arms 121 which swing downwardly towards the delivery conveyor 119 prior to their releasing the full spool. The arms are rockably supported on rotatively driven shafts 122 which carry pulleys 126 for driving belts 127 by which the rollers are driven. The arms 121 are rocked through toothed sectors 123 meshing with sectors 124 mounted on rocking shafts 125. The magazine 145 for storage of empty spools has catch means at its delivery mouth which are operated when transfer arms 161 for picking up the spool reach the pick up position. The catch means consists of a first detent 158 which holds the empty spools back clear of a counter balanced locating lip 157, and a second detent 159 which, as detent 158 swings to allow a spool to move to lip 157, itself moves into the path of the next spool. The detents may be directly actuated by the transfer arms 161, or at an appropriate time in a batch doffing cycle. The plate 130 for guiding into a desired path yarn travelling towards a full spool being driven by rollers 118, has a transverselydisposed arcuate slot 131, and above the slot an arcuate, resilient, guide wire 132 with a mid length notch 133. The yarn is caught in the notch as it travels along the guide wire due to the motion of the traversing yarn guide. A severing device located beneath the plate then cuts the yarn. Deflector panels 150, swingably suspended, assist delivery of the released full spool to the auxiliary roll drive, the panels having associated with them weighting bars adjustable to vary the guiding effect of the panels.
