Abstract
1,230,090. Mould closing and clamping device. U.G. TABLEWARE Ltd. 30 Dec., 1968 [29 Dec., 1967], No. 59115/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division C1] A split mould has two mould halves pivotable about a common pivot point and each provided with a projection, the mould halves being locked together by a wedge which is movable to force the projections away from each other and comprising links, each attached to a mould half and a wedge member respectively for effecting initial closing of the mould halves. As shown in plan view, the two mould halves 3a, 3b are mounted on mould cage halves 2a, 2b which are provided with projections 4, 5 respectively. The mould halves are pivoted at 6 and movement about this pivot opens and closes the mould. A vertical pin 40, 41 passes vertically through the end of each projection 4, 5 remote from the mould and a roller 42, 52 and the slotted end of a toggle member 19, 18 are mounted on each pin. The other ends of toggle members 18 and 19 are rotatably connected respectively to pins 16, 17 on wedge 14 which, when moved from left to right contact the rollers 42, 52 on pins 40, 41. The apparatus shown comprises part of a rotary table mould machine and opening, closing and locking of the mould is controlled by roller 9 co-operating with a cam. Roller 9 is mounted on a cam follower connected by a spring to wedge 14 and on moving to the left (as shown) closes the mould by operation of the toggle arms 18, 19 and forces the wedge 14 into contact with rollers 42, 52 on projections 4, 5 clamping the mould shut. Movement of roller 9 to the right reverses the operation and removes the clamping pressure and then opens the mould. The spring in the cam follower takes up irregularities in the apparatus.
