Abstract
1,229,266. Recovery of solvent from extracted soyabeans and other particulate organic material. BLAW-KNOX CO. 13 Sept., 1968, No. 43713/68. Heading B1B. Solvent, e.g. hexane, is removed from particulate organic material, such as soyabean flakes from which oil has been extracted, by feeding the particulate material through inlet 9 into cylindrical vessel 5 and introducing steam (or inert gas) through nozzles 13 into the vessel while the particulate material is moved through the vessel and agitated by buckets 26 which are rotated on shaft 21, so that showers of particulate material are produced in the vessel. The desolventized material flows out through outlet assembly 38 which comprises an adjustable dam 41 which can be moved up or down by a rack and pinion to form a movable weir in co-operation with opening 10. The effect of adjusting the dam, to control the residence time of the solids material within the vessel, can be viewed through glass enclosed aperture 39b. Secondary opening 11 is closed by hinged cover 42 during the operation of the apparatus. The upper part of vessel 8 is provided with baffles 32 to deflect the steam (or inert gas) downwardly into the path of the solids material as it is showered by buckets 26. Solvent vapour and steam flows out of the vessel through dome 15 to a condenser. The dome is provided with a steam jacket 15a. The distribution of the buckets 26 on shaft 21 is described in detail. When the treatment is complete, the solids material in vessel 8 is discharged through opening 11.
