Abstract

1,226,429. Dry cooling towers. MARLEY CO. 6 June, 1968 [12 Feb., 1968], No. 27071/68. Heading F4S. A dry cooling tower 10, Fig. 1, comprises an upper stack 14 having a fan 72 therein above a heat exchange coil 18 of the multiple row type, each row 20, 22 . . . 42, Fig. 2, comprising a vertical stack of inclined and finned tubes extending at least partially around the vertical axis of the coil, e.g. 180 degrees and staggered with respect to one another to provide a shingled configuration. The inner and outer ends of each row communicate with separate inlet and outlet headers, which headers together with the rows are radially spaced from each other at regular intervals about the axis of the coil. The inlet headers are fed with fluid from a common manifold 76 circumscribing the coil adjacent its base and the outlet headers are connected to a common storage basin 82 beneath the stack, the inclination of the tubes allowing gravity drainage thereinto.
