Abstract
1,225,751. Laminated filters. D. A. G. MARSHALL. 15 March, 1968 [30 Dec., 1966], No. 58298/66. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions B1-B2] An air filter, for removing radioactive or chemical contaminants, comprises layers 10, 12, 14 of honeycomb structure, made of resinimpregnated paper with activated carbon granules in each cell, the cells in the different layers being relatively staggered, metal reinforcing grilles 16, 18, 20, 22, and top and bottom layers 24, 26 of demembraned polyurethane foam, whose marginal portions are folded over each other (Fig. 2, not shown), to enclose the edges of the honeycomb layers, and are then sealed to a peripheral frame (32), of gravity cast, glass fibre-reinforced, catalystsetting polyester or epoxy resin (Fig. 3, not shown). In manufacture, grilles 16-22 are heated, dipped into polyethylene powder which forms a liquid coating thereon and pressed with layers 10, 12, 14 interposed, to bond these layers and grilles together.
