Abstract
1,225,456. Pipe couplings; nuts. AMERICAN STANDARD Inc. 20 Nov., 1969 [14 April, 1969], No. 56746/69. Headings F2G and F2H. An apparatus for mounting a spout structure through an opening in a plumbing fixture Z comprises a spout pipe SP, a nut SN and a spout body SB. The spout nut SN, as shown provided with four integral arms A1-A4 each having a corresponding hinge F1-F4, is fitted over the spout pipe SP provided with grooves G1 and G2, groove G1 being fitted with an O-ring O. Alternatively, the arms A1-A4 &c. may be separable from or separate from the nut SN. The arms A1-A4 are positioned adjacent to the outer periphery of the pipe SP and the fingers F1-F4 engage the groove G2, thus preventing longitudinal movement of the pipe SP in the nut SN. The body SB is inserted through an opening in the fixture Z, the pipe SP inserted into the body SB, and the nut SN screwed on to the body SB at NP1. The 0-ring O provides a fluid seal between the spout SP and the body SB and the engagement of the fingers F1-F4 in the groove G2 enables the spout SP to be rotated but prevents longitudinal movement with respect to the body SB. A pipe PP is then inserted into the body SB and held in position by a nut BN screwed on to screwthreads NP2 on the body SB, a fluid seal between the pipe PP and the body SB being provided by a flexible washer W2 and a metal washer W3. A further washer W1 may be provided between the body SB and the fixture Z.
