[Also in Division D1] A sheet-like product is made by taking off from a spinneret having orifices of 0À1 to 1À5 mm. diameter bundles of continuous thermoplastic filaments each containing 3 to 50 monofilaments at a speed of between 1000 and 5000 metres per minute to a residual elongation of 150 to 500% and a breaking strength exceeding 2À5 g./den., randomly depositing the bundles of filaments on a moving support to form a web, and subjecting the web to superatmospheric pressure, preferably between 5 and 500 atmospheres gauge while the web is held at a temperature which is below the melting-point of the filaments. The web is preferably conducted between a heatable rotating roll and a support which travels in synchronism with the roll, so that the web and support contact the roll for 30 to 80% of the circumference of the roll. The surface of the roll or the support preferably has a Shore hardness below 90. The process may be carried out on the apparatus described and illustrated in the parent Specification. The thermoplastics which may be used include polyamides, polyesters, polyolefins, polyurethanes, and polyimides as well as copolymers thereof.
