Abstract
1,222,565. Turbine blades. MOTOREN-UND TURBINEN-UNION MUNCHEN G.m.b.H. Aug. 2, 1968 [Aug.3, 1967], No.37086/68 Heading F1T. A hollow turbine guide blade for a gas turbine engine contains, in one arrangement Figs.1, 2, a hollow insert 2 having chordwise extending corrugations defining cooling air ducts 4 with the blade wall 1. The corrugations may be shallower on one side of the blade than on the other. The cooling air is supplied to the interior 3 of the insert 2 from the engine compressor and flows to the ducts 4 through holes 5 in the insert, thence flowing rearwardly to discharge through an aperture 6 adjacent the trailing edge. The latter is arranged so that one edge 7 of the blade wall 1 extends beyond the aperture 6 and at least one edge 8 of the insert 2 extends through the aperture. In a modification, Fig. 5, the ducts 4 are formed in the wall of the insert 2 and receive cooling air through holes 5 from the insert interior 3. The ducts 4 may be oval, as shown, triangular or lenticular, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown). In Fig. 8 and in Figs. 9, 10,12 (not shown), the ducts 4 are formed in the blade wall 1, and in Fig. 11 the ducts 4 are formed in inserts 10 mounted only in particularly hot regions of the blade.
