Abstract
1,220,802. Reading devices. T .E. DAVIES. Feb.1, 1968 [Nov.1, 1966], No.48853/66. Heading G2J. A receiver 10 for partially sighted persons comprises a magnifying lens 16 adjustably supported over a baseboard 12 so as to enable reading matter 22 to be introduced between the lens and the baseboard. The lens, which may be of hollow construction filled with a liquid such as paraffin, is raised at one end to facilitate reading from a sitting position. It is supported on four studs 14 by means of eight knurled nuts 18. A removable tray 20 may be used to carry the book 22, or alternatively the reading matter may take the form of a scroll supported on a pair of spaced rollers. A light source, e.g. a fluorescent tube, may be employed, positioned between the lens and the baseboard. Side walls having carrying handles may also be provided.
