Abstract
1,219,555. Determining blood urea nitrogen. CHAS. PFIZER & CO. Inc. 21 Jan., 1969 [23 Jan., 1968], No. 3484/69. Heading B1X. A colour developer solution for use in determining urea nitrogen in blood contains about 0.185% w/v diacetyl monoxine, about 0.03% w/v thiosemicarbazide and about 0.4% w/v ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, the solution having a pH of 6.5 to 7.5. In determining urea nitrogen, an aqueous solution containing about 0.0025% w/v of FeCl 3 .6H 2 O, about 0.05% v/v of 85% H 3 PO 4 and about 7.6% v/v of 95% H 2 SO 4 and a sample of serum to be tested are mixed, the colour developer solution is added and the resulting mixture is heated at about 100‹C for about 10 minutes and cooled. The optical density of the solution is measured at 515 to 525 mu.
