Abstract

The life of the cone section of the refractory lining of a Kaldo converter is prolonged by having a wet slurry of refractory material sprayed on to its unimmersed surface as it rotates during a heat. Preferably the sprayed refractory material reacts with molten slag present in the converter to form a composite refractory coating for the cone section.
