Abstract

1,218,494. Vacuum de-oxidized steel. STAHL-UND ROHRENWERK REISHOLZ G.m.b.H. July 10, 1969 [Aug.28, 1968], No.34839/69. Heading C7D. Steel having a silicon content of not more than 0À1% is tapped at 170‹ to 220‹ C. above its liquidus, deoxidized with 0À5 to 1À5 mgm/ton of aluminium and subjected to vacuum while being scavenged with a mixture of carbon dioxide and an inert gas such as argon. The vacuum treatment may be effected while the metal is in a ladle or in a mould, and the scavenging gas should contain a major proportion of carbon dioxide.
