Abstract

1,217,450. Self-erecting mobile tower cranes. EDILMAC S.p.A. 16 April, 1969 [18 April, 1968], No. 19511/69. Heading B8B. A tower crane, Fig. 3, comprises a base 1 carrying a telescopic tower 4, 5 with a rotatable platform 6 mounting a jib 7 and counter-jib 9 provided with a counterweight 10. A hoist 3 connects the lower end of the tower to the base 1. Two pairs of bars 13, 14 are pivoted at 11, 12 to the base 1 and at 15, 16 to the same side of the tower. The jib 7 is in two sections connected by a vertical hinge 19, the counter-jib 9 being connected to head 17 by a vertical hinge 20. A horizontal hinge 21 articulates the jib 7 on the head 17. For erection from the collapsed position, Fig. 1, the jib 7 and counter-jib are unfolded and cable 22 connected between point 11 on the base 1 and a point 24 on the jib 7. The hoist cable is then wound in by the hoist 3 to erect the crane. The cable 22 maintains the jib 7 and counter-jib 9 horizontal, while the bars 13, 14 guide the tower, which effectively rotates about the (instantaneous) hinge centre at their intersection. Fig. 2 shows an intermediate stage in the erection. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown) the bars 13, 14 are attached to opposite sides of the tower. This results in the crane being somewhat above the base 1 for transport. In a further modification, Figs. 6 to 9 (not shown) the ends of the bars 13 are able to slide along the base 1 so that in the transportation position the crane is nearer to the base 1 than in the embodiment of Fig. 5.
