Abstract
1,215,716. Centrifugal strainer. THOMAS BROADBENT & SONS Ltd. 23 April, 1968 [2 May, 1967], No. 20204/67. Heading BID. A centrifugal strainer comprises two coaxial divergent baskets 60, 61 which are rotated by an electric motor 17 and torsionally vibrated one against the other by means 20, 21. In Fig. 3, means 20, 21 is electromagnetic, and the basket 60 is connected to flange 58, on the shaft 55 which carries basket 61, by a vibration transmitting assembly of circumferentially spaced resilient arms 50 connecting rings 51, 52 (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). Figs. 6, 7 and 8, 9 (not shown) represent alternative assemblies involving radial leaf springs (72) and helical compression springs (78) respectively. In Fig. 1 (not shown), two baskets are merely mounted at the ends of a common shaft which is vibrated by means near one end and transmits vibration to both baskets. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the two baskets (32, 33) are arranged one within the other and both rotation and vibration are transmitted through hollow shaft (36). Electromagnetic vibrator 20, 21 may be replaced by an out-of-balance relatively rotating weight or by a pneumatic or hydraulic device comprising a fixed casing enclosing a rotor, both having radial vanes which almost touch in use.
