Abstract

Heading F1C In an liquid-ring gas pump, e.g. a vacuum pump, having an eccentrically mounted rotor 2 arranged within a housing 3 closed at its end by discs 16 each provided with an inlet port 5, and an outlet port 4, at least one further inlet port 6 is provided in each disc for introducing additional gas into the working chamber 25. The inlet ports 5, 6 are spaced by a greater distance than the distance t between adjacent rotor blades. Gas from a chamber 10 is delivered to the port 5 through an inlet union 8, and to the port 6 via a steam or gas-powered jet compressor 11 and an inlet union 7. Additionally or alternatively, the union 7 may be connected with a chamber 15 containing gas at a higher pressure than that in chamber 10. A manual or pressure-responsive valve 18 may control the flow through union 7 to cause constant delivery through outlet union 9. The latter may discharge to atmosphere. The working chamber 25 may comprise two or more working regions around its periphery, or it may be divided into two compartments by circumferential ribs at the middle of the rotor and/or on the inner wall of housing 3. The pump may be provided with control cylinders or cones instead of the discs 16.
