Abstract
1,211,216. Two-stroke engines. E. A. VON SEGGERN and H. E. VON SEGGERN. Nov.30, 1967, No.54644/67. Heading F1B. Supplies of fuel-air mixture to an ignition chamber 25 and the combustion chamber 15 and excess air to the combustion chamber are controlled by respective inter-connected throttle valves 51, 52 and 53. The toroidal chamber 25 is supplied with mixture substantially tangentially through an inlet manifold 31 and port 30. In the illustrated embodiment, air drawn into the crank-case 20 is delivered to the carburetter 40 and the passage 18 leading .to the inlet port 17. Mixture from the carburetter flows to the port 17 and the manifold 31 through passages 19 and 37, respectively. Air flow into the crank-case 20 is controlled by a throttle valve 55 linked to the throttle valve 51. The air flow through the passage 18 may enter the cylinder 11 through a separate inlet port (57), Fig. 5 (not shown), directing the air round the cylinder axis outwardly of the flow of mixture entering through a pair of ports (17). In another embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), mixture is drawn into the crank-case (20a) through a carburetter (60) and air is drawn through an inlet (66) into a long passage (64) in part defined in the crank-case. The mixture is delivered into the cylinder (11a) through the long passage (64) after delivery of the air. Air may be drawn into the crank-case (20a) and mixture into the long passage (64) by mounting the carburetter (60) on the air inlet (66). Throttle valves (63, 67, 65) in the carburetter (60), the air inlet (66) and the long passage (64) are operationally linked. The engine may be water or air cooled.
