[Also in Division B8] A synthetic resin hinge comprises a pair of flap members 11 and 12, adapted for connection to the elements to be hinged, and a flexible web portion 13 integrally joining the flap members, each flap member being barbed in cross-section in two of three mutually perpendicular planes and having a cross-section in the third plane for interlocking with a recess in the corresponding element to provide a snap connection. Preferably, the flaps have a dovetail cross-section in the third plane. Crosssections in the first two planes show a tapered shank with an enlarged tapered head, defined by faces 14, 15 and 16, 17 respectively in the first plane and faces 20, 21 and 24, 25 respectively in the second plane. Dovetailed recesses 22, 23 are provided in the third plane. The web is unflexed in the open position (broken lines in Fig. 1a) and flexed in the closed position (full lines). Each of the elements to be hinged (Fig. 1b) has dovetail recesses 43 and 44 and a dovetail boss 45 in the third plane in its rear wall 37. The hinge is inserted in the direction of the arrows 50, the enlarged head portions of the flaps being snapped through the recesses into a channel 40. The elements may be a container and lid, e.g. a powder compact. The elements are made from polystyrene and the hinge from polypropylene.
