Abstract

1,209,972. Container closures. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 9 Feb., 1968 [9 Feb., 1967], No. 6444/68. Heading B8T. A hermetically sealable container is assembled by pushing a cover 14 into a vessel 10 so that a bead 16 snaps past a retaining shoulder 11 on to a resilient band 17. At least one vent hole 13 and the resilient band co-operate to form an outlet valve so that pressure can be reduced inside the container by venting through the valve. A shoulder 12 protects the bottom of a skirt 15 from being knocked. In a modification the cover has an additional skirt (18), Fig. 2 (not shown), which co-operates with the inner surface of the container making the cover more rigid and giving a more effective seal which may be needed for different shaped vessels, e.g. rectangular vessels. The container may be exhausted after filling and closing, by placing it in an atmosphere of reduced pressure. The container and cover may be of glass, metal or polymer plastics. The band 17 may be of rubber or polyurethane.
