Abstract

1,208,121. Measuring fluid-flow. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Jan. 31, 1968 [Feb.8, 1967], No.6092/67. Heading G1R. Apparatus for metering a gas-liquid mixture comprises a phase separation vessel 1 having a fluid inlet 2, a gas metering device 5 connected to the upper portion of the vessel, a liquid metering device 7 connected to the lower portion of the vessel and a Tee-junction 8 downstream of the metering devices for uniting the phases. In the extreme condition in which the fluid is 100% liquid and the flow-rate is a maximum, i.e. the liquid fills the vessel 1, the pressure drop through the liquid metering device is equal to the pressure of a column of liquid h. In the corresponding condition of 100% gas the pressure drop through the gas metering device is equal to a column of liquid H. In general, intermediate conditions will prevail and by measuring the pressure drops through the metering devices, the gas and liquid flowrates are determined by a suitable calibration. The apparatus is particularly suitable for metering liquefied gases at temperatures near their boiling points and the metering devices may be calibrated orifices, Venturi meters or integrating meters such as turbine meters.
