Abstract
1,207,563. Underground transport systems. K. MATSUKATA. 3 July, 1968 [12 July 1967; 29 Sept., 1967; 5 Jan., 1968], No. 31760/68. Heading B7L. An underground transport system comprises a car 7 within a tunnel 1 and having rotatable about the tunnel axis on axles 8, frames 15 which connect together a set of legs 3, 4, 5 and 6, the legs 3 and 4 supporting driving wheels 10 and 11, the leg 5 a freewheel 12 and leg 6 a load carrying wheel 13, the wheel 10, 11 being driven by electric motors 16 energized from lines 18 via collectors 17. Air jets at 38 produced by motor-driven fans 40 strike surfaces 37 to stabilize the car during motion. The legs are formed of two telescoping defining between them an hydraulic chamber supplied with oil from a control 20A to extend said legs. Additional support wheels 13<SP>1</SP> may be provided which contain gyroscopic stabilizers 41. In a modification, Fig. 3, the axles 8 are replaced by a circular structure 8<SP>1</SP> fixed to the car and provided with a passenger door ABCD. The inner ends of the legs are provided with saddle bearings 21 which follow the circumference of the body 8<SP>1</SP>. The leg may be formed of two parts 3b, 3c, Fig. 10, which are held together by electromagnets 27, 29 during straight running but released when a curve is negotiated.
