Abstract

1,203,852. Two-part couplings. BOLKOW G.m.b.H. and SOURIAU ELECTRIC G.m.b.H. 10 May, 1968 [19 May, 1967], No. 22391/68. Heading H2E. In an electric plug and socket connection, the contacts 208 of the socket part are rendered water tight and are also short-circuited by an internal spring-loaded cup 204 which cooperates with a sealing ring 203, whilst the contacts 109 of the plug part are likewise protected by an external spring-loaded cylinder 115 which incorporates a sealing ring 120 and co-operates with a sealing ring 103. The dimensions of the arrangement are such that, when the parts are mated, Fig. 2 (not shown), the two parts seal together before the cup and sleeve are displaced sufficiently , to expose the contacts for connection. The cup and sleeve are formed of conducting material so as to short-circuit the associated contacts when the connection is broken. The plug contacts are carried by a member 110 which is secured to the main body of the plug part by a bolt 112 so as to be readily replaceable. Connections from the contacts extend to pins 111 which engage in sockets 107. The force provided by the compressed springs 117, 205 is sufficient to separate the parts of the connection which are held together by means not shown.
