Abstract

1,203,039. Nitrofuryl-isoxazoles.J. R. GEIGY A.G. 14 Feb., 1968 [15 Feb., 1967], No. 7288/67. Addition to 1,108,397. Heading C2C. Nitrofuryl-isoxazoles of Formula I, and their tautomers of Formulµ Ia and Ib, wherein R is - COOR 1 or -CONR 2 R 3 , R 1 is a C 1-6 alkyl group optionally carrying hydroxy, alkoxy or halogen substituents, a C 3 _ 4 alkenyl group or a cycloalkyl group, R 2 is hydrogen and R 3 is hydrogen, C 1-12 alkyl optionally carrying hydroxy, alkoxy or halogen substituents, C 3-4 alkenyl, cycloalkyl, C 1-5 alkoxy carbonyl or carbamoyl, or R 2 and R 3 together form a C 2-7 alkylene chain, uninterrupted or interrupted by an oxygen, nitrogen or sulphur atom, are prepared by reacting a compound containing a structure of Formula II with an alcohol of formula R 1 -OH or an amine of formula HNR 2 R 3 . The compound having the structure of Formula II may be a 3-(5-nitro-2-furyl)-5- amino-4-carboxylic acid or a halide, anhydride, mixed anhydride azide or ester thereof. The compounds of Formula I have antimicrobial activity.
