Abstract

1,201,043. Chairs. A. J. JANSSEN. 31 Oct., 1967 [30 Oct., 1966], No. 49447/67. Heading A4J. The back of a chair has a pair of slots 16 through which passes a rod 15 extending between back posts 3, 4. The back can be turned through 180 degrees by first sliding it upwardly on the rod 15 to clear the seat frame, then rotating it and finally sliding it downwardly. Each arm rest comprises a panel having slots 10 through which a rod 11 secured to the chair frame passes, each panel therefore being rotatable through 180 degrees. A magnetic catch holds the panels in position. The two sides of the back and the arm panels have different coverings. In a further embodiment (Figs. 3, 4) each of the lateral edges of a seat and back panel is provided with a pair of pins (34-37) which slide in slots (38-41) in the chair frame. One end of each slot is open so that the seat and both panels can be completely removed from the frame. An assembly comprising a back rest (47, Fig. 5) pivoted to a seat (48) is detachably secured to an underframe by pins (49, 50, 51) on the assembly engaging U-clips on the underframe.
