Abstract

1,200,085. Grinding. DELAPENA HONING EQUIPMENT Ltd. 10 Sept., 1968 [12 Sept., 1967], No. 41575/67. Heading B3D. A honing tool comprises a rotatable hollow spindle 25 connected to a honing tool body having a stone holder or a plurality of stone holders movable radially in the body, a shaft 22 within, and rotatable relative to, the spindle to actuate means for moving the stone holders, and differential gearing connecting the spindle to the shaft and including a member or members 40, 41 capable of being restrained manually from rotation in such a manner that the restraint applied when the spindle is rotating can act through one or other of a pair of gear trains to vary the rotation of the shaft relative to the spindle. The tool has a drive plate 11 formed with a spigot for driving engagement with a honing machine, and a carrier 13 for planet gears 16, 21 mounted on pins 14, 15 in the plate and carrier. The gears 16 mesh with both an internal gear 17 having an outer periphery formed as a hand grip 40 and a gear 18 secured to a sleeve 19 rotatable in the carrier and connected to the shaft 33. The gears 21 mesh with a gear 22 formed on a sleeve rotatable on a sleeve portion of the carrier and integral with a hand grip 41, the sleeve portion of the carrier being connected to the hollow spindle. The spindle is connected by a member 29 to the body of the honing tool which includes a rod 39 connected by a screw- and-nut mechanism 38 or cam mechanism to the shaft 33 and when axially moved relative to the body of the tool radially adjusts the stone holders. If the hand grip 40 is held while the spindle 25 is rotating, the shaft 33 rotates faster than the spindle so that the stone holders are adjusted radially outwards, while if the hand grip 41 is held, the shaft 33 rotates slower, is held stationary or rotates in the reverse direction to adjust the stone holders radially inwards. In another embodiment, the stone holders are movable by raok-and-pinion means.
