Abstract

1298587 Contraceptives AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORP 28 July 1970 [28 July 1969 (2) 7 Jan 1970] 36413/70 Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Contraceptive compositions comprise a carrier and a compound of the general formula: wherein R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-10 alkyl, R<SP>2</SP> is OH or OOC- alkyl (C 1-10 ), R<SP>3</SP> is H or C 1-10 alkyl, or R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> together are = O and R<SP>4</SP> is H or C 1-10 alkyl, (of the α or # configuration), the compound being substantially free from the corresponding d-enantiomorph. They may suitably be in such forms as tablets and capsules for oral administration. The invention also includes contraceptive methods whereby active compounds (and compositions) are administered to warmblooded, ovulating vertebrates, the said compounds having the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are as indicated above and R<SP>5</SP> is H or OH (of either α or # configuration).
