Abstract

1298027 Valves WILKINSON RUBBER LINATEX Ltd 28 May 1971 [11 June 1970] 28391/70 Heading F2V [Also in Division B2] A composite plate 3 at the bottom of the sorting column of a hindered settling classifier comprises a rigid, flow-defining perforated plate member 9 on an upper side of which is arranged at least one sheet 12 of a flexible material which covers the perforations 16 in the plate member, the sheet 12 having, at each region where it overlies a perforation 16, a plurality of slits 13 such that in use water can pass upwardly through each perforation and through the slits by virtue of the latter opening upon upward flexing movement of the flexible material, and such that when not in use the material 15 to be classified can rest on the sheet 12 and close the slits 13 to prevent the material 15 lodging in the perforations 16 of the plate member 9. The sheet 12 is sandwiched between the plate member 9 and an upper perforated plate member 10 to which it may be bonded. If the plate member 10 has larger perforations 17 which overlie and completely overlap the perforations 16 in the plate member 9. Pressure beadings 14 are provided to isolate pairs of perforations 16 and 17 and prevent flow of water in a horizontal direction between the plate members 9 and 10.
