Abstract
1297710 Fireproof coverings DYNA-THERM CORP 21 Sept 1970 [28 Nov 1969] 44847/70 Heading F2X [Also in Division C3] A fire retarded electrical cable comprises a core of metal (preferably a plurality of metal wires), an insulating layer surrounding the wire, and a fire retardant coating which has been produced by drying a coating comprising a water based resin emulsion, a chlorinated hydrocarbon and one or more inorganic non- combustible fibrous materials. The dried coating preferably contains 6-30% by weight of resin, 1À5-20% by weight of chlorinated hydrocarbon and 7À5-75% by weight of fibrous material, based on the coating weight. The coating is preferably “ to 1/16 inches thick. The chlorinated hydrocarbon may be for example a chlorinated paraffin, a chlorinated naphthalene, a chlorinated terphenyl or a mixture thereof. Fibrous materials specified are asbestos, and glass fibres. Other substances such as an antimony compound, pigments, fillers and plasticizers may also be present. Insulating layers specified are neoprene rubber, butyl rubber, P.V.C., or cross-linked polyethylene. Also exemplified, in the coating of a cable tray and the 20 insulated cables which it contains, with a composition according to the invention, containing polyvinylacetate, asbestos fibres, some of length less than 1/32 inch and the rest of length 1/32-1/2 inch, calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, a plasticizer and chlorinated paraffin.
