Abstract

1296727 Carrier bodies for plants and seeds SEMPERIT AG 28 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969 27 Oct 1969 10 Dec 1969] 41435/70 Heading A1E [Also in Divisions Cl and B8] A carrier body (e.g. as illustrated in Figs. I and 7) for use as a plant substrate comprises a mixture of foam flakes of synthetic resin and nutrient materials bonded together by a foamed water-insoluble binding agent. Optional ingredients are fillers and rotting agents (peat, urea-formaldehyde resin and urease). The foam flakes may be open and/or closed-pore flakes and suitable resins are polyetherurethane, polyesterurethane, urea-formaldehyde resin and polystyrene. The binding agent specified is polyurethane. The carrier body may be in the form of strips, plates, pots or boxes, and may contain a reinforcing layer (e.g. of textile material, synthetic foil or a harder resin). Seeds, bulbs or plants may be inserted into recesses in the carrier body.
