1295182 Helmets GENTEX CORP 26 Nov 1970 [11 Dec 1969] 56186/70 Heading A3V In a protective helmet 10 comprising a rigid shell 12, two adjustable buckles 67, 68 are symmetrically positioned on a rear headband portion so that the tension of the headband may be adjusted equally on either side thus ensuring that the helmet is worn centrally on the head. The extent of the engagement is adjustable to vary the effective size of said headband without interfering with the position of earcups 16. The helmet has side portions (14, Fig. 1, not shown) disposed to extend over said earcups 16. The buckles are mounted on a loop 70 which is secured to the centre of the rear headband portion. The forward ends of headstraps 30, 31, 32 are secured to the front of the helmet shell by means of slotted anchoring plates 41, 34, 42, and their rearward ends adjustably gripped by buckles (43, 40, 44 Fig. 6 not shown). A crown pad 50 of resilient material is slidably suspended from the headstraps 30 and 32 (Fig. 4, not shown). The ear cups are mounted in opposed end portions of a flexible shield (19, Fig. 10 not shown), and suspended within the helmet by means of straps 21. Said flexible shield is divided into two portions (20a, 20b Fig. 11, not shown) which are adjustably engaged by the buckle and strap (26, 27 Fig. 10 not shown). Said end portions of the flexible shield may bear a plurality of snap fasteners 22 for mounting a chin strap to aid in holding the helmet on the wearer's head.
