Abstract
1290799 Rail vehicle suspension; bogies GENERAL STEEL INDUSTRIES Inc 6 Jan 1971 [11 June 1970] 612/71 Heading B7L A railway vehicle body suspension provides inward tilting of the body B on a curve but prevents such tilting on straight track. A transverse yoke 25 has a cylindrical boss 27 which co-operates with a recess in the bogie transom 19. Swing hangers 39 have their top ends pivotally mounted on opposite end brackets 33 of the yoke 25 and their bottom ends are pivotally attached to a bolster 46. The hangers 39 extend upwardly and inwardly so that their imaginary projections intersect at the centre of gravity C of body B. The bolster 46 supports body B on springs 55. Thus if the bolster 46 is moved outwardly relative to the yoke 25 on a curve then the hangers will cause the body B, attached to the bolster, to tilt inwardly of the curve. The relative movement between the bolster 46 and yoke 25 is provided by a motor 59 mounted on bolster 46 and having an output rod 58 which is attached to the yoke 25. A sensing device 63, such as a pendulum, is sensitive to track curvature and speed of the vehicle and operates the motor via valve 60 to provide the desired relative movement of body B and bolster 46 to tilt the body on a curve. A further embodiment employs four hangers and a motor having two output rods (Figs. 5 to 7, not shown).
