Abstract

1287865 Electric couplings AMP Inc 25 May 1971 [30 June 1970] 16846/71 Heading H2E [Also in Division H1] A connector for a tape cable of the kind in which flat strip conductors are loosely disposed in parallel ducts formed between bonded regions of two face-to-face insulating sheets, comprises two elements 5, 6, of resilient metal. Element 5 comprises a wire-crimping portion 8 and a lance portion 7 which penetrates the cable insulation 3 above a flat conductor 2 and lies along the conductor surface. Element 6 comprises a channel, whose web 9 is provided with inwardly struck tongues 12, and whose side walls 10 have sharpened upper edges which pierce the cable insulation from below on either side of lance portion 7. Side walls 10 are then bent over inwardly and compressed to penetrate insulation 3, so contacting lance portion 7, tongues 12 clamping the cable from below.
