Abstract

1285194 Making carrier bags WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER 2 Oct 1969 [28 Oct 1968] 48551/69 Heading A4G [Also in Division B8] Stacking apparatus for a bag-making machine comprises an intermittently operable stacking conveyer for receiving successively delivered bags, the conveyer being provided with a plurality of prongs which have a cross-section conforming to the shape of the handle-holes of the bag, and are disposed at constant spacing, and the conveyer is arranged so that, when stationary, one of the prongs is situated at the stacking station to engage successively delivered bags. The prong may be disposed below the plane of delivery of the bags, and the bags may be deflected so as to drop on to this prong by a vertical stop plate, which is preferably adjustable. As shown, bags are delivered in plane E, and fall on to prong 10. When a sufficient number (measured by time interval or photo-electric eye) have been delivered, the conveyer 1 moves downwards by interval t, bringing the next prong to the stacking station. Prongs 10 are formed as slotted sleeves, and pass over prong 23 on removal conveyer 2. The switch 26, activated by detent 260 stops conveyer 1, and starts conveyer 2. A similar arrangement stops conveyer 2 when the next prong 23 is in position. The stack of bags can then be removed manually from the first prong 23. Conveyer 1 must be of high acceleration, so that the prongs are substituted between delivery of successive bags. Conveyer 2 may be of slower speed, and preferably surrounds conveyer 1. This arrangement may be carried as a unit on wheels, to be attached at the end of a bag-making machine Fig.2a (not shown). The machine may make bags by heatsealing a folded plastics material sheet and attaching or punching handle holes. The bags are preferably given temporary corrugations in the direction of travel by means of a pair of meshing corrugated rollers at the delivery end of the machine to prevent folding.
