Abstract

1283884 Cam-actuated switches HOLZER PATENT AG 19 April 1971 [26 Jan 1970 (4)] 20379/71 Heading HlN A switch housing 1, Fig. 1, containing a multiplicity of cam-actuated contacts 1 has a cover 4 made from a printed circuit board, the conducting strips 5, Fig. 2, of which form fixed contacts or terminal connections for the individual contact systems. The movable contacts 1 in one embodiment comprise double-arm levers with a central terminal projection 19 rockable on one strip 5, whereby alternate ends engage one of a pair of further strips 5. The contacts are actuated by a lever 3 pivoted at a knife edge 21 and coupled to the contact 1 through a projection 22 and compression coil spring 6. A further projection 18 on the lever 3 also gives a positive operation. The lever 3 is rocked by a cam 7 which may be common to a number of levers 3 and is stepped to provide a further central off position, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a similar embodiment the movable contact 1, Fig. 10 (not shown), comprises a strip slightly bent at its centre and supported at this point by a spring 6. In a further modification the lever 3, Fig. 15, actuates a pair of contacts 1, 2, the contact 1 being a single arm lever pivoted at 19 on a strip 5 and movable towards or away from a second fixed contact strip 5 by a single projection 24 of the lever 3 and a spring 6. The second contact arm 2 comprises a double arm lever, one arm only carrying a contact and the assembly being held in position by a spring 6 engaging its second arm whereby the contact 1 pivots simultaneously on the printed circuit board 5 and on the projection 22. Examples are described of rivets (11), Fig. 17 (not shown), used as contacts and engaging printed circuit terminal connections on the other side of a double-sided printed circuit sheet. Terminal connectors for use with the printed circuit boards are also referred to. In further embodiments the movable contacts 1, Fig. 19, may be stampings from strips mounted edgewise in a U-section supporting actuator 3. The contacts 1 are loosely located by lugs 23, 24 extending through the base of the actuator 3 and carry rigid contacts on one edge. The arrangement permits a limited sliding of the contacts for cleaning purposes following initial abutment.
