Abstract

1283753 Sheet carrier device for containers such as cans ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 17 Nov 1969 [20 Nov 1968] 56187/69 Heading B8C A plastics sheet carrier device for multipackaging containers such as canned food products 16, and of the kind disclosed in Specification 914,202, is characterized in that, in order to increase the tensile strength of the material around each container receiving opening 28, one, or more, grooves 30 are impressed in the material in these areas to increase locally the density of the material. The carrier device provides adequate grip over a range of sizes of containers. The grooves impressed around each opening may comprise one, or more, continuous, or discontinuous, circumferential grooves impressed in the top and/or bottom surface of the sheet at the desired diameter or diameters. Alternatively, the impressed grooves may comprise radial impressions 34, Fig. 13, with, or without, an associated circumferential groove 30i. The area within the groove, or grooves, around each aperture may have a convoluted or an undulated surface (32), Fig. 12 (not shown). Impressed grooves may be formed around finger receiving apertures 40.
