Abstract

1282344 Releasable fastenings BLOXWICH LOCK & STAMPING CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [18 April 1970] 18629/70 Heading E2A A latch for vehicle bonnets is formed from a length of spring steel wire and anchored to a mounting plate 1, being coiled around spacedapart pins 6, 7 which are fixed to the plate 1. A straight portion 8 of the latch extends between the pins 6, 7 and limbs 11, 12 extend from the respective coiled portions and are each provided with a part-circular portion 10. Limb 11 has an eye 13 which receives a pin 18 attached to a flexible cable 17 and limb 12 has an eye 14 which receives a pin 20 also attached to the cable 17. In use a conical headed keeper 16 is passed through an opening 2 in the plate 1 and forced between the partcircular portions 10 of the limbs 11, 12. The latter are firstly moved apart and then are urged by the coiled portions into engagement with a shank 15 of the keeper. Release of the keeper is effected by pulling the cable 17, the latter acting direct to move the limb 11 and acting via a pulley 19 to move the limb 12. A safety hook 21 is provided.
